A five-run first inning powered the De Pere Dodgers to a Wisconsin State League road win over the Oshkosh Giants on Wednesday, June 13.
A single by Zach Abfall (Green Bay, Wis.) led to an RBI single by Matt McNabb (De Pere, Wis.) just one at-bat later, where the speedster Abfall scored from first base. McNabb would score on an RBI single from first baseman Sam Kohnle (Kewaunee, Wis.), while Kohnle would score on a single by right fielder Noah Robinson (Green Bay, Wis.). Robinson and shortstop Griffin Summers would round out the five-run inning with a two-RBI double from catcher Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.).
De Pere would follow up the big first inning with one run scoring in each of the next three tops, propelling the Dodgers to a 8-0 win and a 9-1 record.
Robinson was 3-for-5 offensively with two RBI and a run. Hunter Staniske (De Pere, Wis.) was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Kohnle and Kosobucki tied Robinson with a game-high two RBI.
Cole Paplham (Denmark, Wis.) got his first action in a Dodgers uniform, throwing five innings, allowing two hits, and striking out ten batters. Evan Rice (Brillion, Wis.) would finish out the game on the mound, facing only three hits in four innings, striking out nine.
The Dodgers are back in action Thursday, opening a four-game home stand against the Appleton Legends. First pitch from Westwood Park is set for 7:30 p.m.
